Summer BBQ’s
Throughout July, Friday BBQ’s with hamburgers, hot
dogs and all the trimmings were delicious, and made all the more fun
with music by Greg Inniss, who always manages to get a group of
residents and staff up dancing.
Recreation co-ordinator Laura Lieberman has returned
to university to further her education. We wish her luck! Although
she is missed, we are lucky that she will be able to provide
activities on Saturdays which everyone will certainly appreciate.
Maureen Pinchuk and Gabrielle Brunelle-Bélanger, replace Laura
during the week and all excited to introduce some new activities to
the monthly calendar. Some of these include a choir, news and views,
reminiscences, mental aerobics and painting. Monday afternoon bridge
club is back, with renewed participation. Happy hour each Wednesday
afternoon continues to be popular with a great number of residents
attendance. The participation at all activities is growing and we
look forward to an interesting and fun-filled autumn!
Restaurant outing
On August 19 the residents went to Scarolies, an
Italian restaurant which they love. Not only does it have delicious
food, but it’s by the waterside in Pierrefonds where they can
appreciate the beautiful scenery. The residents enjoyed chatting
over lunch and learning more about each other. We can’t wait to go
out again next month!
July 2011
Summer BBQ
July was a beautiful sunny month, filled with outdoor
activities. The residents had the chance to participate in
barbecues, while enjoying the music of talented entertainers, such
as Greg Inniss whom they enjoy greatly. He always manages to create
a vibrant atmosphere filled with laughter and people who sing-a-long
to their favourite songs. Some residents even like to get up and
dance and the employees also join in. It’s a great chance to
socialize as a community.
June 2011
Father's Day
Mother's Day Gifts
As a special event towards the end of May, several of Chateau Dollard’s residents went out on the bus to the Hudson Village Theatre to see a magnificent performance of 'Shirley Valentine'. Shirley was played by actress and theatre owner Heather Markgraf, and the entire spectacle was done by her alone. The monologue was witty, humerous and took place in two acts; the first act being England and the second act being Greece.
Chateau Dollard’s residents
were sitting right upfront in the first two rows and had a great
view of the entire play. Residences from the surrounding areas also
attended the play which made it a nice outing since our residents
got to see old friends and familiar faces from years back. A great
time was had by all, and we all look forward to going to the theatre
again soon!
The St-Patrick’s day happy hour was fun, with green treats to nibble on and good old Irish music to listen to while drinking a pint o’ beer (or wine for those not feeling as 'Irish'!). Residents dressed in green from head to toe, while Laura the activity coordinator read Irish sayings and hilarious Irish jokes.
If happy hour was not enough Irish spirit for them, our visit from the Bernadette Short School of Irish Dancing, surely was. Children between the ages of 10 and 15 from the school performed for our residents on our dance floor in the dining room, adorning traditional Irish costumes and big beautiful smiles. They put on a lovely show, and the residents were very impressed by the skill these young children possessed. The show hit even closer to home because a few of the dancers were actually the grandchildren of one of our residents living right here in Chateau Dollard! Everyone here feels very fortunate to have the Bernadette School of Irish Dancing return every year to perform for us, and look forward to 2012’s show!
December 2010
Residents and family members were invited for cocktails and a full course meal, and close to 170 people attended the event. Raffle tickets were given at the door, refreshments were served as the chefs prepared a superb dinner and prizes were drawn throughout the evening while listening to the extremely talented Greg Inniss on the keyboard and vocals.
The staff joined in on the
fun by dancing to traditional Jewish music, Greek music, line
dancing with family members, conga lines around the tables, and
ended the night by doing the “Macarena” in between bursts of
laughter from the crowd. Some residents asked to take the microphone
and say a few words to say thank you, and to show their appreciation
to Gina Luci; our General Manager, Laura Lieberman; our Activities
Coordinator, and all the staff at Chateau Dollard for all the hard
work they did for the Christmas party and for the hard work they
continue to do every single day. Residents could not stop talking
about the party and how wonderful it was and will still speak highly
of it today if asked about their time at the 2010 Christmas party.
November 2010
Lakeshore
Hospital Bake Sale
The hospital was packed with supporters and the turnout was excellent. After making their rounds several times up and down the halls, the residents were ready to head back home, happy and content, knowing that they helped contribute to a good cause.
In light of Remembrance Day, on November 11th, one of our residents Mr. Bill Touchie graced us with his presence at our yearly Remembrance Day ceremony and spoke about his time served in the war. His recap of what he endured was very touching, and few eyes were dry in the audience.
Refreshments were served once Mr. Bill Touchie’s memoir was finished, followed by a moment of silence at 11:00am to remember those lost in the war. Due to the memories of the war hitting so close to home for many of our residents, they could not express their gratitude enough to Mr. Touchie for speaking and asked for him to make his speech annually. He gladly accepted.
Approximately 25 residents attended the free class, and many said that it was very nice to learn how to properly stretch and take deep breaths.
The class ran about 45 minutes and the residents were ready for their snack time once it was finished!
Chateau Dollard ended the month of October with a fabulous Halloween themed birthday party. Staff joined in the fun by dressing up in costume and the resident’s followed suit adorning their favourite Halloween broaches and orange & black outfits.
Cake and juice was served to the resident’s while they sat back and
enjoyed the music of Renno who plays the steel drums. Our activity
coordinator Laura made lootbags filled with goodies and passed them
out to all the residents that attended. Fun was definitely had by
all! |
